REW HANKS

As a Sydney based printmaker I produce intricate linocuts that combine dry wit, satire and hard-hitting imagery which engage social, political and environmental issues. My post-modernist fables have questioned the moral dilemma of cloning the Tasmanian tiger, the conflict between introduced and native species, the maltreatment of the indigenous people and Australia’s legacy of colonialism. My recent series of prints unite the invasion of Australia by the cane toad, rabbits and Captain Cook while simultaneously addressing Australian culture’s obsession with sport and the ongoing dilemma of racial and gender inequality of indigenous and female competitors.
