LYNDALL BECK

A passionate artist, printmaker, and art tutor of over twenty-five years, Beck’s current works, “Small Spaces – Long Echoes”, pertain to memory and change of resonate streetscapes and places that are crumbling and disappearing. Intaglio and experimental printing of etched zinc and collograph plates extend the spontaneity of plein aire sketches of buildings and environments under threat of demolition.

Born in 1958, Beck grew up on the outskirts of Sydney, among horse paddocks, hills hoists and blow-up paddle pools. Modest post-war cottages were dwarfed by turpentine stands with plentiful fruit trees and vegetable gardens. Recent suburban waves of demolition evoke grief and solastalgia as cottages, trees and gardens quickly give way to high-rise shadows.
